"Each of us is a minority of one"

Kenneth Starr made the argument today in the California Supreme Court that the fundamental rights embodied in the California Constitution are subject to the will of the majority, and that thus the protections offered to minorities via the constitution are subject to amendment and curtailment based on popular vote.

Quote: "Each of us is a minority of one".

Hmm..talk about making issues of race, class and sexuality invisible.

  1. Sadly, it looks like he's pretty much correct for now.

    I agree with what Shauna said in a previous comment about allies taking ownership of a particular identity. I think it's helpful to remember that you don't necessarily have to understand everything about a minority experience to realize that it's somehow unjust or wrong and try to make things different. We'll all have to collaborate on SOMETHING eventually :P
